To Smell Or Not To Smell - That Is The Question
Bad Breath (scientifically called halitosis):
Brush your tongue. Sounds simple, but it reduces the cause of bad breath by up to 75%, which is better than the 25% when just brushing your teeth. Want to reduce the germs that cause bad breath even more? Store your toothbrush bristles down in a cup of mouthwash. Refresh the mouthwash every time you brush.
Drink tea - Black and green teas contain catechins that mask smelly breath compounds. Drink some tea without sugar after your meal.
Chew a lemon rind - Love garlic but it doesn't love you? Dip a piece of lemon in a pinch of salt and chew it. The lemon oil and salt will help diminish the smell.
Orange wedge before you get out of bed - To rid yourself (or your spouse) of morning breath, place an orange wedge beside your bed. When you wake up in the morning, eat the orange wedge and feed one to your spouse. Presto...no more morning breath!
Smelly Feet:
Freshen up your shoes - To keep your feet smelling fresh, position a dryer sheet in the sole of each shoe.
Onion Smell On Your Hands:
Hands smell like onions - After cooking with onion, many times your hands will smell like ion for days. Just rub your hands on a stainless steel faucet and no more onion.
Perfume:
Keep perfume in the fridge - Perfume's smell usually only lasts for 2 years. To make your perfume last longer, place your perfume in the fridge. The scent will last almost forever, because heat and light is what causes it to deteriorate. It also feels refreshing when you put it on.
Odor in the Air or On th Floor/Carpet:
Vinegar - One of the cheapest and most effective deodorizers is vinegar. Need to freshen a room or closet? Place a bowl of vinegar in the room and it will absorb any odors. Have a pet that has 'accidents' on your hard wood floor or carpet? Place 1 part vinegar to 1 part water in a spray bottle and spray the area of the accident. The vinegar smell evaporates when it dries and deodorizes the spot of the accident!
These are just a few tips I've collected over the years that have helped to vanquish odors in my home. Would LOVE to hear about any tricks or tips you might use!!

Cookies - For Breakfast? You bet!!
I never thought of having cookies for breakfast (OK, maybe that's not entirely true, as I probably didn't eat the most nutritious foods in college. But I digress!) so when I saw this recipe I thought it might be something to pass along to my readers. It is definitely a cookie, but packed with enough nutrition to make it worth eating. And at only 126 calories per cookie, why not satisfy that sweet tooth? This recipe is courtesy of Vocalpoint.
Cookies for Breakfast?!
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour or whole grain pastry flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup olive oil
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup honey
2 medium eggs, lightly beaten
2 tablespoons fat-free milk
1 1/2 tablespoons vanilla extract
2 1/4 cups quick-cooking oats
1 cup golden raisins
1/4 cup semisweet mini-chocolate chips (or a dark chocolate bar broken into bits)
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt.
In another large bowl, whisk the oil, sugar, and honey until creamy. Add the eggs and stir until thoroughly combined. Add the milk and vanilla extract and stir again. Add the flour mixture and stir until just combined, then fold in the oats, raisins, and chocolate chips. Drop the dough by a tablespoon onto an ungreased baking sheet.
Bake for 9 to 13 minutes or until slightly brown but still very soft. Cool on the baking sheet several minutes, then carefully transfer to a rack.
When completely cool, store in an airtight container.
Makes 36
Per cookie: 126 calories, 2 g protein, 18 g carbohydrate, 6 g total fat, 10 mg cholesterol, 1 g fiber, 106 mg sodium

A Life of Nothingness ... or Is It?
As I write this, I am uncertain exactly where I want to go with this post. I know that I haven't written anything (other than sales, freebies and coupons) in a while. But I don't want to write about nothing...or do I?
That is the area that my life seems to be in right now...NOTHINGNESS!! It seems that the areas of my life that I have tried to ignite have fallen into nothingness. The areas that I strive to be good at have ...again...fallen into nothingness. Although 'nothing' seems to be happening, I am not bored (how on earth can anyone be bored when they have two teenagers and a pre-teen in the house?!?!?!?) In fact, my life is quite busy these days, but...even as I speak...it seems fraught with nothingness!
I am currently looking for a job...NOTHING! I am working on my master's degree, and yet...NOTHING! I am waiting for ministry opportunities...still, NOTHING! I am ready to see something (almost anything) happen that will push me out of this phase of nothingness and into a life of fulfillment and purpose that I see in my Spirit, but have not yet seen in the natural.
I have discovered that the times life seems to amount to 'nothing' are the times that quite a bit is happening. God is hard at work making something from nothing. He is molding me and fashioning me into what will please Him. And during those times of 'nothingness' come a treasure that only He could dream up...only He could create...only He could make worthwhile. A very wise pastor's wife once told me that during the times that we do not see growth, God is growing our roots deep. Just as an oak tree grows tall, without a deep root system, the tree could not stand. We may not see height, but without deep roots, the height could not be achieved.
So I say to you (and to myself) "Do not despair during the times of seeming nothingness. For God is doing a work in you that will prepare you to stand tall and proud, as His creation."
